Privacy policy
Your work records belong with you. This policy explains local storage, optional iCloud syncing, Apple services, and what Thride Ltd handles when you visit our website or contact us.
Who we are
Thride Ltd is responsible for the personal information we handle through Thride and thride.app. Our address is 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom. For privacy questions or requests, email luke@thride.app.
Your records in the app
Thride stores your work records on your device. These can include shift times and breaks, routes and precise location, mileage, earnings, expenses, receipts, fuel fill-ups, vehicles, work platforms, categories, goals, preferences and a home address if you choose to add one. You can optionally sync eligible records through Apple’s private iCloud storage, as explained below. You do not need a separate Thride account.
The app uses these records to provide the tracking, logbook and calculations you request. It does not send your work records to advertising services or use them to build advertising profiles. Information you choose to send us in a support email is handled separately, as described below.
Location, motion and Apple services
With your permission, Thride uses location and motion activity to track shifts and mileage and detect journeys. Background location access allows relevant tracking and journey detection to continue when the app is not on screen. Precise location can reveal places you visit, including your home. You can change location and motion permissions in iOS Settings at any time; disabling them limits the associated tracking features.
Local storage does not mean the app never communicates with Apple. Map display, address search and conversion of coordinates to addresses use Apple services. Map requests, search text or coordinates needed for those features may be sent to Apple. Apple handles that information under its own privacy terms.
Device backups, including iCloud Backup, may also contain app records depending on your Apple settings. These backups are separate from Thride’s optional iCloud syncing. Thride Ltd cannot access your device backups.
Optional iCloud syncing
If you choose Use iCloud, Thride uses Apple’s CloudKit service to store and sync eligible records in the private database associated with your Apple Account. Thride Ltd does not receive a separate copy of those records on its own servers. Apple operates iCloud under its own terms and privacy policies.
Synced records include ended shifts (including shifts awaiting details), eligible completed trips and their routes, income and expenses, receipt images, fuel fill-ups, vehicles, work platforms, categories, goals, and settings including your home address and coordinates. Completed trips sync whether they are awaiting review, linked to an ended shift, or marked as non-work. Trips linked only to an active shift stay on the device until that shift ends. Active shifts and in-progress tracking remain on the device. Trip review decisions sync across devices. Device permissions and unfinished tracking recovery state are not synced by this feature.
Enabling iCloud merges eligible local records with those already in your current iCloud account. Edits and deletions then sync across devices where you enable the feature. The app uses an iCloud account identifier and sync metadata to keep records associated with the correct account and coordinate changes. An account change or cloud reset pauses syncing until you choose to enable it again.
Syncing requires an available iCloud account, storage and a network connection. Changes can wait on the device until syncing succeeds. Thride does not keep older versions of synced records as backups. Keep independent copies of important records. You can use the app without enabling iCloud; maps, address lookup and purchases still use Apple services.
Turning off Use iCloud in Thride’s iCloud settings stops syncing on that device. It does not delete local records or the existing iCloud collection, and other enabled devices can continue syncing. See Retention and deletion below for removing cloud records.
Subscriptions and diagnostics
Apple processes subscription payments through the App Store. The app reads Apple-provided transaction information, including product identifiers, purchase and expiry dates, and subscription status, to verify purchases, restore access and determine which features are available. Thride Ltd does not receive your card details or Apple Account password. Apple also provides us with sales and financial reports.
We do not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the app. Apple may make crash diagnostics and app analytics available to us according to your device sharing settings and Apple’s policies. We use information made available to us to investigate faults and improve reliability. You can manage diagnostic sharing in iOS Settings.
The website and support email
Our marketing website offers an optional mailing-list signup. We do not use advertising trackers or website analytics. We do not set analytics or advertising cookies. Netlify hosts the website and processes technical request information such as IP addresses, requested pages, timestamps and browser information to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. This necessary hosting activity is different from visitor analytics.
If you contact luke@thride.app, we receive your email address, name if supplied, message, and any attachments or other information you send. We use Google Workspace for email. Please avoid sending passwords, payment details or information about other people that we do not need to resolve your enquiry. We do not add support contacts to our mailing list unless they separately sign up.
The Thride mailing list
If you join our waitlist, we collect your email address to send Thride’s launch announcement and product updates, such as patch notes and upcoming features. Joining is optional and is not required to use the app. Submitting the clearly labelled signup form gives us your consent to these emails. We record the signup time, source and consent wording so we can demonstrate your choice.
We use EmailOctopus and its authorised service providers to store the list and deliver messages. We disable open and click tracking in our mailing-list emails. Delivery, bounce and unsubscribe information helps us operate the list and honour your preferences. You can withdraw your consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in our mailing-list emails or by contacting luke@thride.app. This does not affect processing before you withdrew consent.
We keep mailing-list details while you remain subscribed, and review inactive contacts after 24 months using information available to us about your relationship with Thride. When you unsubscribe, we stop sending mailing-list emails and retain only the information needed to honour that choice and demonstrate consent or compliance, for as long as needed for those purposes. Provider backups expire under the provider’s deletion schedules.
Why we use information
Where UK or European data protection law applies, we rely on performance of our contract with you where processing is necessary to provide purchased access or respond to a service request. We rely on our legitimate interests in running a secure website, answering other enquiries and improving app reliability for necessary hosting, support and diagnostic processing. We consider your rights when relying on those interests.
We rely on legal obligations where we must keep financial records or respond to a lawful requirement. Where consent is required for an optional use, we seek it and you can withdraw it. Device permission controls also let you stop optional access to location and motion. Not supplying information needed for a support request may prevent us resolving it.
We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, or use automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Providers and international transfers
Netlify processes website requests, Google Workspace processes support correspondence, and EmailOctopus processes mailing-list details and email delivery on our behalf, together with their authorised service providers. Apple separately operates the App Store, maps, iCloud storage and syncing, device backups and diagnostic sharing under its own privacy terms. We may disclose information where required by law or where necessary to establish or defend legal rights.
Our providers operate internationally, including in the United States and the European Economic Area. Where information we control is transferred outside the UK or EEA, the applicable provider data-processing terms provide transfer safeguards, such as approved standard contractual clauses and the UK Addendum, or an applicable adequacy framework. Contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data or a copy, subject to necessary redactions.
Retention and deletion
Deleting Thride using Delete App in iOS removes its local app data; offloading the app does not. Deleting the app does not delete its iCloud collection. Records that finished syncing can be downloaded again when you reinstall and enable iCloud with the same Apple Account. Records that have not finished syncing, active shifts, trips linked only to an active shift, and in-progress tracking may be lost unless included in a separate device backup. Deleting the app does not cancel an Apple subscription.
To remove the synced collection, use Delete data from iCloud in Thride’s iCloud settings while connected to the relevant Apple Account and online. This removes synced work records, including routes and receipts, and pauses syncing. Local records remain on each device; other devices pause when they next connect. Minimal reset metadata remains to prevent them from automatically restoring deleted records. If you explicitly enable iCloud again, retained local records can be uploaded again.
Backups and exported or shared copies must be managed separately through the relevant device, backup or storage service. We cannot retrieve or remotely delete records that we do not hold.
We keep ordinary support correspondence for up to 24 months after an enquiry is resolved, then delete it unless a specific legal obligation or unresolved dispute requires longer retention. Where we retain identifiable diagnostic material ourselves, we keep it only while needed to investigate and resolve the issue, and review its deletion when the issue is closed.
Hosting and security records are retained only for the period needed for site delivery, troubleshooting and abuse prevention under the provider’s service retention arrangements. Financial records are retained for applicable statutory accounting and tax periods. Deleted information may remain temporarily in provider recovery systems or backups until those copies expire under their deletion schedules.
Your choices and rights
Depending on the law that applies, you can ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold, restrict its use, receive a portable copy, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent where we rely on it without affecting earlier lawful processing. Contact luke@thride.app; we may need proportionate information to verify your identity. We will respond within applicable legal time limits.
These rights have legal limits, and we cannot supply data held only on your device. For information controlled independently by Apple, use Apple’s privacy controls or contact Apple. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data protection authority, including an authority in the EEA where applicable.
Adults, security and changes
Thride is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information. Please contact us if you believe a child has sent us information.
We use appropriate access controls and provider security measures to protect information we handle. No system can guarantee absolute security. Protect your device and backups with appropriate access controls.
We will update this policy if our services or data practices change, and provide additional notice where required. The date above identifies the latest version.
